Lauren Greenhall is an award winning, webby nominated producer and director known for their community forward approach, comedy background, and commitment to inclusiveness.
She has directed TV and video for Nat Geo, The New Yorker, The New York Post, CBS Interactive, HuffPost, Amazon Originals, and Inside Edition as well as branded content for Marvel, Footlocker, Dove, Matador Records, and the New York Public Library. She regularly directs videos of live comedy, music, and performance at Caveat NYC.
Greenhall was a 2021 resident at the Jewish Film Institute for ZELDA – a documentary about an ultra-orthodox Jewish woman and her relationship with her wig – and was recently awarded the FY2024 Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts towards the completion of this film.
Her previous success profiling women in religious spaces include short documentary about modest fashionistas The Frock (NYPost), and news/doc piece on Abby Stein the first transgendered Hasidic Jew (Inside Edition). The virality of her series Muslims in America (HuffPost) landed her the opportunity to speak at NYU about the relationship between religion and the media.
Her movie Perfectly Good Moment – an award winning psychological thriller starring Broadway star Stephen Carlile and Amanda Jane Stern – premiered at the 2023 Sarasota Film Festival as a nominee for the Independent Vision Award and has been acquired by Buffalo 8 distribution for a 2024 release.
She directed critically acclaimed music video “Imouhar” for the band Mdou Moctar which subsequently played on a loop in Times Square as part of their album release promotion in April 2024.
Greenhall directed comedy documentary special Haunted Mansions with Jo Firestone, VeryWell’s first docu-series called “Stay Calm Mom” examining pregnancy from a pregnant woman’s POV, served as a director/producer on CBS Interactive’s comedy news show “The Breakdown with Luke Mones”, and directed Milk Riders, a short documentary that received international attention and was featured on the New York Times, Slate, Refinery 29, HuffPost, and Bust among others.
In May 2020 Greenhall directed and created the Miss Quarantine Pageant, a scripted comedy parody of beauty pageants. With a cast of 20, two original songs and a coordinated dance number, this 35-minute extravaganza was featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NY1, and The Stranger, among others.
Noteworthy projects also include directing “Reality Bites” a reoccurring segment on Nat Geo’s stoner-comedy special Wild After Dark, producing and co-staring in “Put That In Your Skits” a finalist in New York TV Festival’s truTV Comedy initiative, as well as serving as a producer for Loyiso Gola Live in New York Vimeo’s first international standup special where Greenhall was flown to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to develop the show alongside the South African comedian.
Outside of film, she co-created “Pop Inflation: Fragments and Fears”, an installation that premiered at the Rubin Museum as part of the FluxBuddha exhibit in Spring 2018. In a former life she produced a series of live music festivals, a comedy talk show on East Village Radio and served as producer at Comedy Central’s event New York Comedy Festival, working for the fest during the day and waitressing at Carolines Comedy Club at night. She loves Indian food.
